About me

Karen Dyer

I am a confident and experienced Costume Cutter and Maker producing costumes for Theatre, Film and Television. I gained invaluable experience cutting and making costumes at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre for 4 yrs. I then completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Pattern Cutting, obtaining a Distinction at St Martins College of Art and Design. My degree qualification is Theatre Design at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, specialising in costume.

Subsequently, becoming freelance, I have been working for a variety of companies including Shakespeare's The Globe Theatre, BBC and Scary Cat Studio. Furthermore, I have previously taught costume cutting & making on the FDA and BA Costume course for Theatre, Television and Screen at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School for over 6 years part time.

Also, teaching pattern drafting and construction on the ND Fashion and Textiles course at City of Bath College for over 12 years part time. What I enjoy immensely is the actual process of creating a costume from the beginning, accurately interpreting the design drawing, if there is one! As well as achieving the finer detail on the costume. With over 25 years of experience I can cut from all eras of Womens’ Costume. Based in the South West of England in Bath with my own workroom.
